now that i'm home i can upload the last bit of the world tour in turkey...omid and i spent our time relaxing, catching up and, of course, dancing. the first night i got there was a friday, the celebratory bbq night at the end of each week for the campers (they come in one week cycles). the kids are from all over the world, seemingly mostly bulgaria, greece, turkey and israel, and it was so fun to get to dance with them. all the songs from eurovision (like american idol) got a lot of screams but the most fun was the last song, the cha cha slide. if you are not familiar, it's a song that consists of dance instructions so the whole group does it all together - hilarious with 9 year olds.
the next day, omid's only full day off, we headed out to ozdere for some beach time and swimming in the agean. above is pictured the hotest sand ever. i mean ever. my feet hurt the next day and we had to super run to the water so as not to get burned.
we went out in the evening to the waterfront in izmir and got to see the most incredible sunset.

we met up with lindsay and elliott (two of omid's coworkers) for some beers and backgammon which all led pretty quickly too:

DANCE. you can't read lindsay's shirt but it says 'qblr fan' for all you harry potter lovers out there, it opened in turkey that day and the staff went to see it.

the next day omid had to work but i also got in one last round of ancient rocks...i mean...monumental ruins. above is artemis temple and tourists (not really that great). honestly, ephesus was incredible and so much is left/reconstructed that it's hard not to imagine what life was like there each day. i spent the time with luisa, one of omid's coworkers, who had the day off. it was great, but we ended up walking around 10K....we didn't want to pay for a taxi. we did have korean food though, from a semi-drunk korean man alone in his huge restaurant that he opened just for us. totally worth it.

the next night we headed on a ferry to another part of izmir to enjoy some turkish apple tea (so good!) and nargile. omid is very photogenic.

of course the last night we spent dancing (luisa and rana above), chatting and wandering about the neighborhood in search of a late night soccer game which we never found. had we known there were 10 fields within 2 minutes of the house we may not have tried...
